The two district in eastern Bhutan lhuentse and pemagatsel receives two fire fighting engine from the government of Japan.It was handed over to the royal Bhutan police.So far government of Japan has granted total of 54 fire fighting engine to the royal government of Bhutan.
Honorary Council of Bhutan in Japan Ryoichi Nagata, mayor of Inazawa City Toshiaki Ohno, and fire chief of Saitama Seibu Fire Bureau, Naoki Fujimiya donated the fire engines to Bhutan’s fire services.
The Japan embassy in New Delhi, India funded USD 21,306 through the Grass Root Project to transport the fire engines to Bhutan.
Police chief Brigadier Kipchu Namgyel said the two engines would be given to Lhuentse and Pemagatsel dzongkhags.
“It will be of immense help to people living in these two dzongkhags to overcome the rampant fire disasters that have been occurring in the recent years,” he said. “One of the most frequent and persistent natural disasters that has continuously plagued Bhutan is fire and this kind of contribution will be of great help for the country and the people.”
First secretary of the Japanese embassy, Mayu Hagiwara said Japan and Bhutan had been in a diplomatic relation since 1986 and 27 years on, it’s still going strong.
Bhutan has to date received 24 fire engines under the same project supported by the government of Japan.
